St Mary’s Syro-Malabar Mission is a community of Malayalee Catholics and friends in Newcastle, NSW. We gather to celebrate the Holy Qurbana, to hand our faith on to our children, and to share the rich spiritual and cultural heritage of the Syro-Malabar tradition.
Everyone is welcome, whether you grew up in the Syro-Malabar Church, have just arrived in Newcastle, or are simply curious about our Eastern Catholic tradition.
Our community began in 2009, when a small group of Malayalee families came together to celebrate the Syro-Malabar Qurbana and keep their faith traditions alive far from home. Through prayer, patience and generosity, that small gathering has grown into the vibrant mission we are today.
The Holy Qurbana is the heart of our life together, celebrated with reverence and the beauty of the Syro-Malabar tradition.

Get involvedThe Syro-Malabar Church is an Eastern Catholic Church in full communion with the Pope. Its roots lie in the Christian community of Kerala, India, traditionally traced to the ministry of St Thomas the Apostle.
Its liturgy, the Holy Qurbana, is rich in prayer, song and symbolism. Visitors are always welcome to join us and experience it for themselves.
